Who says good makeup has to cost an arm and a leg?! As a self-proclaimed lip gloss addict, I can tell you that makeup in general is one of my favorite things about being a girl. However, I don’t like having to put a tube of lip gloss or an eyeshadow on layaway. That’s why I love NYX Cosmetics. It’s like getting MAC quality make-up for a fraction of the price plus I don’t have to put up with the too-busy-doing-my-own-makeup-to-help-you makeup artists/sales people and those hot ass vanity lights.

So for the past weeks I’ve been watching this show on The N hosted by ANTM’s Yoanna House and Dr. Michelle of The Tyra Banks Show, called Queen Bees. The basic premise of the show is to dethrone the “queen bee” attitudes of the female contestants, ages 19-21. You know, talking behind the best friend’s back, mistreating the parents, being inconsiderate of other’s feelings, etc. Everybody knows at least one, and whether we want to admit it or not, there’s a little Queen Bee in all of us, guys and girls alike.

Fashion Week is right around the corner and as someone who consideres herself a fashion addict, I can honestly say I’m really excited! As we all know, many designers showcase their upcoming collections during the event, and the coverage will be insane! Personally, as much as I love the fashions, I try not to get too caught up in the media driven hype since most of the time I totally disagree with what they deem as the new “it” line. However, there are a few designers that I am excited about: BCBG Max Azaria, Miss Sixty, Betsey Johnson, and Lacoste.

A few years ago, I came across one of the most talented makeup artists/photographers I’ve ever seen. I was browsing myspace–playing 6 degrees and totally bored out of my mind when I happened upon the profile of Melanie Buslon. I instantly fell in love. She had some of the most amazing photograhs I’d ever seen. Vivid and creative, totally spellbinding.

What I think I liked most about her work, was her use of color in the makeup looks. Bold and peircing was her style, and I was feeling it 100%. It was also raw. Like you could tell she wasn’t coloring-by-numbers so to speak, but that she was producing this art through her soul. I tell you, I.was.in.love.

Everyone already knows how fashionable Rihanna is.  Regardless of your opinion on her singing career, that’s just one thing you cannot deny the girl. She’s always making the “Best Dressed” lists whether she’s strutting her stuff on the red carpet, lighting up the stage, or just out and about on her own free time. I, for one, truly admire the choices she makes when it comes to fashion and I must say a large portion of that is due in part to her fashion stylist, the amazing Mariel Haenn. Throughout the years, with the help of Ms. Haenn, Rihanna has transformed her look dramatically. What I like most about Rihanna’s style is it seems so effortless and feminine, even when she’s wearing brass-knuckle heels!

So lets take a look at one of her more recent out and about get-ups. Here, she  was spotted at Barney’s New York along with new singer Duffy (not pictured). She looks rather stunning in a somewhat normal outfit: a plaid blouse under a fitted white vest paired with dark wash skinny jeans and open toe sandals. While her outfit may be a bit more on the expensive side, it’s really easy to replicate this look in a more budget friendly way.

So I have a list of things to do before I die, and one of them is to become a surgeon. Not necessarily a real doctor, since blood makes me squeamish, but a t-shirt surgeon. Yep, I wanna get crafty. I love it when I see other girls wearing pieces they made, and I get really amped to try to put some of my own creativity to use.

Here’s where OH MY STARS comes into play. I think this website is absolutely adorable! The owner of the site is web designer/craft master, Katie. She started Oh My Stars in the summer of 2004 after toying around with her mother’s sewing machine, and ended up creating the awesomely reconstructed T-shirts displayed on her site. Two years later, she’s moved to London where in her free time, she’s begun to explore knitting and drawing, which you can also check out on her site.
